Men Warn They Would Break Up With Plus Size Woman if She Didn’t Lose Weight – But One Personal Trainer Gets Down on One Knee

When Matt Montgomery started dating Brittany Jacques, they got a lot of backlash. But they ignored the haters and are thriving.

Love comes in all shapes and sizes. After all, when two souls speak to each other, they don’t really care about looks.

Yet, some people seem to forget that everyone is deserving of love, no matter what they look like, and feel the need to share their two cents — especially online.

Thankfully, one couple who experienced that kind of toxic feedback continues to shine with their inspiring relationship.

A Woman About to Give Up

In Ontario, Canada, a 24-year-old woman named Brittany Jacques struggled with her self-confidence for years. Part of it was wanting to fit in with what society dictated she should look like. Part of it was a series of boyfriends who told her she should lose weight. At one point, she almost gave up on love, reports The U.S. Sun.

Then, she met a man named Matt Montgomery. It was love at first sight.

“We had both almost given up on dating when we started talking,” Jacques explained. “I was a bit hesitant at first [but] we hit it off right away from the moment we met.”

Jacques clarified that in the past, guys had told her they would break up with her if she didn’t lose weight. “It did affect my self-confidence, and at one point, I did start working out and trying to change my size,” she continued.

“But then I realized that if I did that, I wouldn’t love myself anymore, and I would be changing myself for someone else’s perception of beauty.”

Jacques and Montgomery quickly fell in love and began sharing their relationship online. And that’s when the negative comments started to pour in. People wondered why Montgomery, a 140-pound personal trainer, was with a plus-sized woman. And many suggested they should break up.

None of that mattered in the slightest to Montgomery, though. He loved Jacques for so much more than her looks.

“I’ve been in previous relationships with skinny girls, and they’ve not been happy in themselves at all,” he said. “They weren’t positive people, or they constantly felt like they needed to change things about themselves, and it got me down too.”

With Jacques, though, Montgomery felt like he could also be the best version of himself. “When I met Britt, she was so confident in her own body; I loved that about her, she doesn’t want to change anything, and I would never ask her to,” he said.

“I love food as well, so that’s a plus. I’m not worried about tracking her calories or dieting, I just want her to eat what she wants and be happy.”

Ignoring the Haters

So how does the couple deal with so much online toxicity? By dismissing the chatter completely. In fact, they feel it’s important to continue documenting their love journey so that other couples who might not conform to society’s “norms” will see themselves represented too.

“I wish mixed-weight relationships were more common and more in the norm,” Jacques said. “There’s definitely this misconception that a fat person and a skinny person can’t be properly intimate or do things like start a family, but we’ve never had any issues. We feel so lucky to have met each other, and it’s the happiest we’ve ever been.”

This couple is so in love that in January 2022, Montgomery got down on one knee. Now, the couple are married and even have a sweet baby boy. Now that’s a happily ever after worth celebrating.

Love Is Love

Love comes in all shapes and forms, and the only people that ever truly matter in a relationship are the people who are in the relationship.

This couple proves that, all while reminding people that it’s not okay to judge somebody by the weight they carry on their body.

We all want to be loved and seen for who we are on the inside, so shouldn’t we give others the same respect?

Weight and worth shouldn’t be interchangeable. And the sooner we can all recognize and accept that, the happier we’ll all be — not only in our own relationships but also with ourselves.
