Look beyond oil, support investors- Okowa to community leaders & youths
GOVERNOR of Delta State, Dr. Ifeanyi Okowa, has called on youths and other stakeholders of various communities in the state to look beyond oil and encourage entrepreneurs to invest in their communities.
Okowa, who was represented by the Commissioner for Oil and Gas, Mr. Mofe Pirah, at a town hall meeting in Koko, Warri North Local Government Area, with community leaders, elders and youths, said the state government had put in place measures to attract investors to the state.
He said: “It is now left for the youths and all community leaders to play their part by providing a level playing ground for industrialists.”
He advised communities to sink their differences and work towards an all-inclusive Global Memorandum of Understanding, GMoU, with companies in their areas, and not a document prepared by only the youth leader, which would later spark crisis.
The governor urged the people to look beyond oil and explore opportunities in other areas like agriculture and industries that would help the economy and curb youth restiveness.
“The present administration in the state is strongly determined to provide a new lease of life to Deltans through the SMART Agenda programmes, which have trained over 10,000 youths in different fields to better their lives,” he added.
